It’s never too late to get support and help
This 2D animation follows Erik, a 55-year-old construction worker. For years he never thought about his breathlessness, and smoking was just a habit. Now his cough and shortness of breath have got worse in the mornings, and a colleague urges him to contact the health service. At the clinic he learns that it is not asthma but COPD – chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which makes it harder and harder to breathe as the lungs and airways become stiff and inflamed. The film explains how COPD causes more mucus, coughing and frequent lung infections, and that although COPD does not go away, you can take control and slow it down. It shows the steps that help: stop smoking, stay physically active, take your medication regularly and correctly, and talk openly about it.
Case study
Using animation to explain COPD and the steps that help.
The problem
Symptoms that are easy to ignore
Breathlessness and a smoker’s cough are easily dismissed as part of everyday life, and many people with COPD do not talk about it. The film states plainly that COPD is nothing to be ashamed of.
The solution
One man’s story, clear explanations
We combined Erik’s story with animated explanations of the lungs and airways, and a doctor who walks through what helps. The voice-over is in Greenlandic, with Danish subtitles.
The result
A clear call to action
The film ends with Erik, now smoke-free: he still has COPD, but he can live with it. It urges anyone with breathing problems to contact their local health centre – it is never too late to get support and help.
